PRIMAL MODERN

Primal Modern (est. 2013) is a Los Angeles-based design studio specializing in luxury custom and one-of-a-kind organic modern furniture and sculpture made from solid wood, metal, glass and leather. Every piece is an original design, conceived and hand crafted by award-winning artist, architectural designer and founder Michael Olshefski.

In addition to commissioned work, we offer a unique collection of ready to purchase one-of-a-kind and limited edition pieces. Every museum quality piece includes a certificate of authenticity. 

SUSTAINABILITY

Our wood is salvaged from felled trees due to age or other natural circumstances. The wood is slowly air dried for up to four years and then kiln dried for several months. This thoughtful and patient process ensures quality wood that is environmentally sensitive and properly prepared for indoor use. 

DESIGN PROCESS

Michael brings 20 plus years of experience as an architectural designer and project manager to his work at Primal Modern and follows the same architectural design process for his furniture. His highly personal and collaborative approach throughout the process ensures you will receive your new heirloom piece as envisioned.

STEP 1 - INITIAL CONSULTATION

• Personal consultation to review the desired space for your piece including floor plans, pictures and any other information that will guide/influence the concept design process.

• Discuss material preferences including wood type, style, budget range, schedule, etc.

STEP 2 - CONCEPT DESIGN

• Develop and review 2-3 concept design options based on the specifics of your space and information gathered during the initial consultation.

• Determine, adjust and finalize the desired concept design, budget and estimated schedule.

STEP 3 - DESIGN DEVELOPMENT

• Finalize the design and details prior to the start of fabrication.
